EMPLOYMENT HISTORY

N.Y.S.C. (1995-1996): Community Secondary School, Ukpor, Anambra State

But my career began in earnest as an intern at the International Criminal Court in The Hague, Netherlands, after which I returned to Canada to take up employment as a Manager Trainee with the Government of Canada. As part of the program, I acquired proficiency in French, in addition to my English and Yoruba proficiency. After successfully completing the Management Training Program, I worked in the Library of Parliament of Canada in Ottawa. I was subsequently deployed to the Department of Natural Resources, where I have served in various Managerial positions over the past sixteen years. Further details of my professional experience are provided in my attached résumé/CV.

COMMUNITY SERVICES

I started my public service career as an undergraduate at the University of Ibadan, where I was the President of the Ẹsa-Oke Students Association.

  • Diaspora

For several years, I have been actively involved in the Yoruba community in Ottawa, Canada. I served as Vice President, and later as the President of Isokan Yoruba Ottawa (Ààrẹ, Ẹgbẹ́ Ọmọ Isokan Yorùbá Ottawa, Canada, 2024–2026), having earlier served as Igbákejì Ààrẹ (Vice President) from 2021 to 2024. In addition, I have also served as the Coordinator of the Afenifere Renewal Group (ARG) Canada since 2010. As a Yoruba leader in Ottawa, our team established the Yorubaland Health Initiative, through which we provide annual medical outreach to communities in Yorubaland. This year, we focused on Ogun State,  where we organized a Blood Pressure Initiative offering free screening to indigent citizens of the  State, in collaboration with a reputable healthcare facility. This program has not yet extended to Osun State, which is why I have not advocated for towns such as Esa Oke to be prioritized within it.

As President of the Yoruba community in Ottawa, I worked with the Ottawa Catholic School Board to sustain and expand free Yoruba language classes for children in the diaspora. I helped secure recognition of Yoruba as a high school credit course, enabling children in Ottawa to study their language and culture within the public education system at no cost to their families.

On the cultural front, I was instrumental in the establishment of Isokan Yoruba Ottawa Asa Day, to celebrate Yoruba heritage, the first event of its kind in our community’s 26-year history in Ottawa.

  • Pan-Yorubaland Activities

(Home and Abroad) As part of my involvement with Afenifere, I served as a member of the Board of Trustees for the Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN Commission), Ibadan, and worked with its leadership to provide input during the establishment of Amotekun Corps in the South West of Nigeria.

I continue to liaise periodically with senior stakeholders in Yoruba land, including Afenifere leaders and political leaders such as governors affiliated with the Afenifere. Some of the efforts are still ongoing, having been reactivated earlier this year: Osun State is now likely to be involved because of the realignment of the governor with Afenifere elements at the Federal level (Nigeria politics is always in the way sometimes).

I am the pioneer President of  the Afenifere Renewal Group (ARG) Canada, and have led it since inception.

In memory of my late friend Professor Pius Adesanmi, ARG Canada partnered with the Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN Commission to hire science teachers for Abolarin College, Oke-Ila. While the vision and credit for establishing the school rightly belong to Kabiyesi Abolarin, ARG Canada has, in its own small way, contributed to advancing his mission of human capital development, in the spirit of Afenifere and service to our Yoruba people.

Closer to home, in Esa Oke, I serve on the Education Committee and have contributed financially toward hiring teachers for our secondary schools. Those who know me will attest to the fact that I have also been providing direct financial support to many indigenes, whose names I withhold here out of respect for their privacy.

MY VISION FOR ESA-OKE

My concern for the current situation in Esa Oke stems from a genuine, altruistic desire to see the town thrive. Esa Oke’s topography reminds me of Italy’s mountain towns:  places where human ingenuity has turned challenging terrain into celebrated tourist destinations. Esa Oke, similarly, sits within a belt of possible mineral resources that could be developed through collaboration between the private sector and government.

I have ruminated about the Ido Ayegunle matter & have had discussion with some Esa-Oke elites for instance. I see a future where Esa-Oke, using the Federal might vis-a-vis Afenifere influence to ensure that the gold being extracted from the area is to our benefit. I believe human ingenuity can likewise transform Esa Oke into a thriving community; one that generates economic opportunity for our restless youth and drives infrastructural development.

As I noted in my recent article, Esa Oke at a Crossroads: Leadership, Development and the Future We Cannot Ignore, our town lags behind comparable towns in Ijeshaland on nearly every developmental index. Esa Oke needs the collective goodwill of its sons and daughters; and a strategic development agenda to reset priorities, mobilize resources, harness talent, and drive sustainable progress. A Call to service: Despite our abundant human capital and the vast potential of our natural resources, the underdevelopment of our community remains a matter of deep personal concern. I am motivated by this concern to serve our community and help chart a new way forward for the town. I see this call as an extension of my Civil Service career, a call to duty that no Prince of our Royal House who is in a position to help like myself should ignore. While I do not wish to lobby unduly for this position, or compromise principles in this pursuit,  I am prepared to set aside personal comfort for the collective good of our community, and to mobilize my network– both at home in Nigeria and among our people in the diaspora– in service of our town’s development, should it be the will of God that I be selected.
