In the midst of the uncertainties pervading the entire atmosphere and landscape of our hometown, Esa Oke, we, the Media professionals feel it behove on us to address the issues at hand and set the agenda for achieving an enduring peace and unity in the town.
Truth be told, the Esa Oke Media Professionals, as a body, is not happy at all, about the recent developments within our countryside, Esa Oke. And this is the time we have to tell ourselves the home truth, nothing but the truth.
We all know that the town, Esa Oke is just coming from weeks of intense tension and the ensuring unfortunate mayhem. These unfortunate incidents arose due principally to lack of proactive leadership. And neither our traditional, political and intellectual leaders can be exculpated from this inadequacies. We have left so many things undone, and thus created a crack that outsiders are now exploiting to our peril.
The Media professionals believe that no enduring peace nor a sustainable growth can be achieved under an atmosphere of inequity and discord. It is a trite that where there is no peace, there cannot be peace. Where there is no peace, there cannot be progress, and where there is no progress there cannot be development. And basically, all these are intertwined with unity and love.
In our community today, all these basic ingredients of growth and development are lacking. There is no love for one another, and apparently, unity is lacking in all quarters of the town. These led to the unfortunate mayhem of February 3rd, which brough so much destruction and loss of lives to the town.
The issue of Ido Ajegunle has been on ground since 1995 or so when the Ilesa people first attempted to install an Oba in the nascent community. They were promptly curtailed by the town ably led by the immediate past Owamiran of Esa Oke, Oba Isiah Adeniran JP. This led to the 1999 gazette. The crisis erupted again in year 2003. The response of the State Government under Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola was to set up a one-man Panel of Inquiry. Administratively and technically, this is very obnoxious. Reason being that a one-man panel could be easily influenced and without a second or third opinion, whatever he comes up with might be erroneously taken and accepted as the true picture of events. And exactly, this was what happened.
That our people from the Asalu Chieftaincy Family, the aboriginal owners of the land in Ido Ajegunle were precluded from appearing before the Hon. Justice ….. panel by subterfuge of Ilesa people, who instigated the arrests and detention of the leaders lent much credence to this assertion.
We are concerned that our people failed to legally challenge this since 2005 and even after another white paper was issued on the report in 2014. That these dubious reports and gazettes were classified by the State Government who refused to publish them as demanded by normal practice is clearly a single of double-standard by the State Government.
Divinely, Esa Oke has been offered a second chance to prove her case beyond all reasonable doubts. We now unequivocally call on the Owamiran of Esa Oke, Chairman of the Esa Oke Central Union, High Chief Asalu of Esa Oke, Chief Enurin of Esa Oke, to without delay constitute a strong, dynamic and virile legal team to start studying all the available relevant documents and historical evidences to present the town’s case at the Commission of Inquiry promised by the State Governor, Mr. Ademola Adeleke during his fact-finding visitation to Esa Oke on Tuesday, February 4th. The Governor had self-corrected his gaffe when he earlier visited the Ido Ajegunle where he assured the people of his support.
It is our fervent believe that before the inauguration of the promised Commission of Inquiry, there would have been a stakeholders meeting in Esa Oke where all issues affecting the peace and unity of the town will be addressed and thoroughly thrashed out.
We are calling the State Government not to succumb to the pressure of setting up another one-man panel. We also extend the call to the community to reject any attempt to constitute such, as this will not serve the interest of the Esa Oke community.
We also advocate for a neutral venue, neither llesa or even Esa Oke. We want a venue where adequate security will be provided for both attendees and witnesses at the panel.
