The correct and proper process of selecting a new Owa Omiran of Esa-Oke has been officially clarified by the Chairman, Obokun Local Government Council, Hon. Jiire Agboola, at a meeting with the Gogodudu/Anaye Ruling House, which is next in line to nominate the new Owa Omiran.
Hon. Agboola explained, among other things, that the Kingmakers have the right to sell “expression of Interest forms”.
He outlined the guidelines and procedures of selecting an Oba.
He also informed them that all the contestants must be presented before the kingmakers for a final selection.
On a positive note, the Ruling House has decided to start the process of selecting a new monarch for Esa-Oke in earnest.
The Council Chairman led other senior officials of the Local Government. The team included the Vice Chairman, Hon Rotimi Odugbemi, Hon. Lekan Adeoti from Obokun East Local Council Development Area (LCDA) Ilare Ijesa, Secretary, Obokun Local Government, and the Director of Administration of Obokun Local Government Council.
Leading the Gogodudu (Anaye) Ruling House was Chief Adebayo Olaitan, with the
Secretary of the Anaye Ruling House, Prince Oyekan Aregbesola and the youth leader.
Also, each of the five family tree making up the Anaye Ruling House was represented by two members. Two other persons from the larger Omo Omiran Community joined the meeting, as observers.
Chief Olaitan explained to the Council officials that there were five family trees making up the Gogodudu/Anaye Ruling House. He said all the five families presented candidates for the vacant Owa Omiran stool, with none of them willing to step down from the contest.
Responding, the Council Chairman informed the stakeholders that it was beyond the power of the Ruling House to disqualify any of the contestants.
Therefore, the meeting agreed that all the contestants will be presented to the kingmakers for final selection.
While considering the possibility of consulting “Ifa” (oracle), it was agreed that it would not be a basis to disqualify any contestant at this stage of the process.
