• Adeleke Intervention douse tension
• Esa Oke now Calm
The orgy of violence that rocked the ancient community of Esa Oke on Monday, February 3rd, has died down, leaving never seen nor heard before gory pictures and tales of destructions and emotional trauma.
The Governor of the State, Mr. Ademola Adeleke led a high-power delegation to Esa Oke and its farmland, Ido Ajegunle. In his delegation were the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Kolapo Alimi, his Chief Of Staff and the Commissioner of Police.
After an on the spot assessment, and listening to presentations by the various leaders and Chiefs in Esa Oke, the governor was shocked to discover that the position earlier taken by the government was not in consonant with the reality on ground. He therefore, declared that the Obaship status in Ido Ajegunle be restored back to status quo ante.
However, there was a controversy over the stand of the governor, as he had visited the Ido Ajegunle community and assured them that their problems over the enthronement of an Oba were now over, but when he got to Esa Oke and listened first hand to the history and political and demographical relationship of the community with Esa Oke, he quickly dispensed with his prepared speech and spoke extemporaneous.
Governor Adeleke, however, called for calm and peaceful co-existence all thed parties, promising to immediately set up a panel of inquiry to dig out the facts about the ownership and history of Ido Ajegunle.
He promised to take care of those who were wounded and compensate those whose shops and properties were damaged.
While the governor and his entourage’s visit ease the police harassment, yet there were palpable tension and fears among the residents, with many wearing long faces and lugubrious looks, while major streets were deserted.
The ubiquitous Okada riders have virtually disappeared, and the few plying the roads were cautiously watching. One of the Okada riders told www.esaoketodayonline.com that most the Okada bikes in the town were destroyed or totally demobilized by the goons during their 12-hours of rage in the town.
As at Wednesday morning the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) members were awaiting the State Officers from Oshogbo, to devise how a member, Ogunleye Aderomola, popularly known as Ayama, would be treated and possibly be compensated by the State Government.
The Chairman, Mr. Abraham Adebowale, popularly known as Ibro told www.esaoketodayonline.com that the union needs the assistance of the State government as the costs of his treatment are huge.
